Warrington CCG is piloting a new Cancer Rehabilitation programme in partnership with LiveWire and St Rocco's.
'We're Positive' includes three programmes that aim to offer physical and psychological support to people throughout various stages of their treatment.
- The Positive Pre-Treatment Care is a two week programme that helps people prepare for their forthcoming treatment.
- The Positive Through Treatment Programme is a 6 week course that provides extra support for those under-going treatment
- The Positive Support Care Programme is a six week course designed to give further support required and is held at St. Rocco's Hospice.
All three programmes include a range of tailored exercise sessions, relaxation techniques, occupational therapy, benefits advice, healthy eating advice and help with regulating emotions.
The courses have been launched to provide additional support for those undergoing treatment and to maximise the outcome of cancer treatment.
National Guidance has advocated the importance of undertaking light exercise as it can help reduce some of the side effects of treatment such as; fatigue, breathlessness, lymphoedema, anxiety, loss of muscle strength and poor appetite. Following these steps of treatment has proven to be an integral part of the cancer rehabilitation process as patients receive great benefits by doing so.
