Publicity and engagement with partners and the public commenced as planned, in December 2014.
Summer 2015

Planning permission

The Plans for the new 3G pitch were approved earlier in June 2015.The plans for the hub and other associated works have also been submitted and were approved in early August 2015.
April 2016

Building work commences

Construction work began on site with work on the new tennis courts, drainage and temporary works access.
June 2016

Tennis courts completed

Construction of 4 new tennis courts completed. Construction began on the 3G pitch.
September 2016

3G pitch completed

Construction of the new 3G pitch completed and ready for use
August 2016

Swimming pool closure

It is anticipated that the pools will remain closed for approximately 12 months to allow a full refurbishment, including an expanded teaching pool, new spectator viewing area and changing facilities.
September 2016

Main build commences

Construction of the main building will begin to the north and west of the current building.
July 2017

Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub will close

The old Sankey building will close on 16th July 2017. The 3G pitches and tennis courts will remain open as normal
July 2017

Demolition of old building

Demolition work will begin to remove the redundant parts of the old building. This will take about 3 months.
Early 2018

Opening of the new hub

The first new facilities in the hub will be open for public use, including the fitness suite, studios, the library. The new road access and car park will open at the same time.
Late 2018

Sports hall and spa opening

With the opening of the sports hall, pool and spa the hub will be fully completed.
