Great Sankey High School is an outstanding school (Ofsted 2010) with a dedicated sixth form college and approximately 1,950 students on roll. As a close partner of LiveWire the students benefit enormously from using LiveWire facilities during the school day.

The School has a long history of working with LiveWire, together promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting first class sporting achievement with an arrangement for dual use of facilities. The school enables every young person to aim high and study subjects which will help them to achieve long after they leave the school. There is a programme in place to help students to make their important choices which range from a Guided Options Evening, a UCAS sessions led by college tutors in which students look at the world of higher education and research some of the 50,000+ courses on offer, to an individual interview with a member of the senior leadership team at school.

Working with industry partners such as the RAC and LiveWire, the school ensures the curriculum is fit for purpose. As a result, the School has exceptionally low NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) figures for their school leavers and LiveWire support the school in the development of employability skills by providing executive shadowing placements for year 12 students and by taking an active role in Careers Advice Information and Guidance. LiveWire provide guest speakers who talk about careers in LiveWire and the wider sports and leisure Industry. LiveWire work with the PE department and the College on the development of their Vocational programmes to ensure these are fit for purpose and the young people leave the College prepared for a career in industry.

The school has a well-established programme of community learning, including short courses for adults, and in the future the delivery of this programme will move to the Gt Sankey Neighbourhood Hub. For more information visit www.greatsankey.org/about/courses/

Great Sankey High School is proud to be a partner of LiveWire and as a Teaching school can offer a wide range of support for schools and for the next generation of outstanding teachers. Designated as a Teaching School this means the school is at the forefront of teacher training and support and has developed a Teaching School Alliance.

School Direct with the Great Sankey Alliance supports talented candidates who have the qualities and attributes suited to a career in teaching and can provide support with a focus on sustainable leadership development and school improvement. School Direct, as the name suggests, is a direct route into teaching where successful applicants can gain a PGCE with QTS course and 60 Masters Credits, delivered predominantly within a school based environment supported by a partnership with University of Cumbria. There are training places available in a range of key stages and subjects. For more information visit www.greatsankey.org/teaching-school/school-direct/

The Alliance also offers school to school support and has Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) available to support in a range of subjects and key stages. SLEs are outstanding middle and senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools.
